What is Good Measure Meals?
Good Measure Meals, a social enterprise of local non-profit Open Hand Atlanta, provides sound nutrition in gourmet, ready-to-eat meal plans, delivered fresh across Metro Atlanta since 2005. Not only do we help thousands of people achieve weight loss and manage chronic health conditions like diabetes and hypertension, we provide the ability to simply eat in a healthy way without all of the time required to plan, shop, cook and clean.
Plus, at Good Measure Meals, it’s about more than a meal. We believe in a 360-degree support system, led by registered dietitians and fitness pros, to help you achieve your wellness goals. Forming healthy habits is not a one-step approach, and Good Measure Meals is Atlanta’s comprehensive way to help you eat well, stay healthy, and do good -- both for yourself and for those in need. Who owns Good Measure Meals?
Good Measure Meals™ is a social enterprise of and is owned by Open Hand Atlanta, Inc. a nationally recognized nonprofit nutrition agency. Good Measure Meals™ offers healthy meal plans and nutrition education/coaching to its customers, with 100% of the net proceeds going to help support Open Hand Atlanta’s community nutrition programs. Open Hand Atlanta’s mission is to help people prevent or better manage chronic disease through tailored nutrition interventions, which include a wide variety of health-promoting meal plans as well as nutrition counseling and coaching delivered by an experienced team of registered dietitians. With the help of 8,000+ annual volunteers, the agency prepares, packages and delivers over 5,200 meals per day in 19 metro-Atlanta counties, making it one of the largest community-based nutrition agencies in the country.
What is a Social Enterprise?
Social enterprises can take many forms: non-profit, for-profit, or a hybrid model. Social enterprises use these business models to provide a good or service that is focused on creating solutions for some of the world’s toughest social and environmental problems, helping to drive innovation and encourage transformative change on a broader level.
Social enterprises are different than business enterprises – Social enterprises aim to maximize social impact, whereas business enterprises aim to maximize profit. There is overlap here, of course, as a social enterprise can also make money and a business enterprise can care about social mission. However, it is the primary goals that are the distinguishers.
The primary differentiator between traditional non-profits and social enterprises is the funding model: Non-profits typically earn revenue from grants and donations, whereas social enterprises earn revenue from selling a product or service.
Good Measure Meals is a social enterprise which has a hybrid business model. We sell meal plans, but 100% of our net proceeds go directly to Open Hand Atlanta.
About Our Meal Plans
Is Good Measure Meals a diet?
This all depends on what you mean by "diet." The true meaning of "diet" is just the food you eat – so in that sense, yes!
If by "diet" you’re wondering if Good Measure Meals promotes weight loss – again, yes! Since Good Measure Meals’ plans are calorie-controlled, they can help you lose weight by selecting the right calorie level for your individual needs and goals.
Now, if by "diet" you are thinking of the restriction or elimination of certain food groups or categories of nutrients, or if "diet" conjures up the idea of deprivation and misery, then absolutely not. In fact, we are just the opposite. At Good Measure Meals, we are all about balance and moderation. Good Measure Meals are fresh, flavorful, and filling. Eating healthfully can and should be enjoyable, and we hope you experience that on our meal plan.
Finally, most diets are inherently short term, something you “follow” while working towards a goal and then “finish” once you feel your goals have been met. (Alternately, you may also fall off the diet due to parameters that are not conducive to daily life.) Typically, whatever results you see from a short-term diet plan will also be short-lived. Lasting changes to your health come from making healthy eating a part of your lifestyle. At Good Measure Meals, we certainly don't want or expect you to eat our meals for the rest of your life! What we do hope is that in the process of being on our meals, you'll learn a healthy, balanced way of eating that is sustainable for you for the long haul.
What types of meal plans are there?
Since building a whole custom meal plan from scratch can be a little intimidating, we start you off with the option of one of our Base Plans. From there, you can customize as much or little as you like by swapping in meals from other menus or setting dietary preferences! Bon appetit!

How much variety do you have?
LOTS! All of our plans are truly customizable! Our menus are set on a four-week cycle, and you can choose from multiple options for every meal, whether you opt for one, two or three meals per day. At the end of the four weeks, the cycle begins again; but since you have the ability to customize, you have the power to change your menu so you get something different every month! In addition, every six months we launch a redesigned menu with new seasonal recipes and customer requests. Be sure to give us feedback on the meals you eat through the 'Rate Meals' button in your customer account. Leave us suggestions on menu or recipe ideas and maybe we'll even name a meal after you!
What calorie levels do you offer?
We offer two calorie options: 400 calories per meal or 600 calories per meal. Each meal is macro-nutrient balanced by our team of registered dietitians to make sure you are getting healthy ratios of lean protein, nutrient-dense carbohydrates, and healthy fats.
For customers who want additional snacks with their Good Measure Meal plans, we offer two add-on snack plan options in either 200 calorie-per-day increments or 400 calorie-per-day increments.
Can I substitute a meal?
Now that all of our plans are now customizable, you can, at any time before our 1pm, Wednesday deadline, change meals you are scheduled to receive by clicking "Manage Plan" in your customer account portal.
Can I substitute an ingredient?
While we cannot make ingredient substitutions to our individual meals, we now offer the ability to filter out meals that contain specific items such as protein type (beef, seafood, shellfish, chicken, turkey, pork, etc.,) or certain ingredients (grapefruit, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, etc.) to help you build the best plan for your tastes. Please note that the more items you filter out, the more limited the customization of your menu will become. Simply access your Dietary Preferences through your account page. Follow the steps below to set your dietary preferences!
How long will my meals keep?
Since we do not add preservatives to our foods nor do we freeze them, we recommend you consume your meals as scheduled in your menu and keep all upcoming meals refrigerated. If you cannot eat your meals as scheduled, freeze them immediately or give them to a friend or neighbor to enjoy! Every meal has a "Use By" date printed directly on the container.
Can I eat your food if I have a food allergy?
Reactions to food allergies can not only be severe, but also deadly. If you have a life-threatening allergy, because we cannot guarantee cross-contamination, we do not recommend you use this service. We do offer the ability to set dietary preferences so that you can exclude nuts and/or shellfish from your menu selections. Simply select Set Dietary Preferences from your Customer Account, and toggle the No Nut or No Shellfish to the on position (orange) to exclude meals with those ingredients. Please note that this preference must be set prior to ordering your meal plan and must be applied during the order process.
How do I heat my meals?
Heating instructions will be delivered each Monday in your meal plan bag. You may use a microwave, conventional oven, or toaster oven to heat the components of any meals which require warming. Please be sure to transfer the food out of our container and into an oven-safe dish if using conventional or toaster oven. Each microwave heats food at different rates, so we recommend that you begin heating your food in 1 minute increments until it reaches the desired temperature. Please note that eggs, bread products and seafood require less heating time than other items.
About Our Ordering Process and Subscriptions
How many meals per day can I order?
Customers now have the option to order one, two or three meals per day in any combination, thanks to our advanced customization feature. Want to order just breakfast and dinner? No problem. Want to order just lunches? No problem. Love our breakfasts and want to order 3 breakfasts for all of your meals? We’ve got you covered!
For customers who want additional snacks with their Good Measure Meal plans, we offer two add-on snack plan options in either 200 calorie-per-day increments or 400 calorie-per-day increments. Snack add-on plans arrive in separate bags from meal plans, so make sure to collect all of your bags at pick up!
How many days per week can I order?
All of our plan combinations are offered in 5 or 7 days-per-week options.
5 days-per-week plans consist of two deliveries per week on Monday and Thursday. On Monday, you receive meals for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Thursday you receive meals for Friday and the following Monday.
7 days-per-week plans consist of two deliveries per week on Monday and Thursday. On Monday, you receive meals for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Thursday you receive meals for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
How does your subscription service work?
In order to avoid the need for contracts, we implemented a very convenient and simple subscription system. Upon signing up for Good Measure Meals, your order is placed for your first week. At that time, your account becomes activated to purchase your selected meal plan automatically right after our 1 p.m. Wednesday deadline each week and going forward unless you designate otherwise within your account by skipping a week(s) or cancelling your account. Otherwise, your next scheduled week of meals will be ordered and you will be charged at the time of the 1 p.m. Wednesday deadline.
To skip a week of delivery, you must access the account portal and select specific weeks to skip. To ensure you skip your meals for the upcoming week, you must edit your subscription calendar no later than 1 pm each Wednesday to affect the following week’s order. Good Measure Meals will neither bill nor deliver meals to you for the week(s) that have been designated as “skipped.”
You may also cancel your account at any time by clicking the subscription cancellation button located in your account portal. However, upcoming orders are scheduled and payments processed at 1 pm each Wednesday for the following week of delivery, so cancellation after that time will not counteract any existing payment or terminate meals for the following week.
When will I be charged for my meals?
In order to keep things as simple as possible for our customers, all new and existing subscriptions will be charged on Wednesday afternoons for the following week’s meals. Of course, if you have skipped the next week, you will not be charged.
Can I Opt out of the subscription system?
Currently, all of our meal plans are subscription-based, and orders are processed at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays to initiate production and delivery for the following week. To order one week of meals only, simply wait for your first order to process on Wednesday, and then cancel your account via your account portal any time after 4 p.m. that Wednesday and before the following Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the next week’s order processing deadline.
Can I temporarily stop my meal plan?
Our service is very flexible. If you need to skip a week of meals plan for any reason, just access your account portal and skip the week or weeks that you would rather not receive meals. To ensure you skip your meals for the upcoming week, you must edit your subscription calendar no later than 4pm each Wednesday to affect the following week’s order. Good Measure Meals will neither bill nor deliver meals to you for the week(s) that have been designated as “skipped.”
Currently, you can schedule your meals up to 8 weeks in advance. We will communicate with you weekly, prior to the weekly 1 p.m. Wednesday order processing deadline, to let you know if you are scheduled to receive meals or have chosen to skip the next week. This will serve as a reminder for you to access your customer account portal and make any adjustments necessary.
Can I gift a meal to someone?
Of course! Gift certificates are a wonderful way to treat friends, family, and co-workers to a break from the kitchen with fresh, healthy meals.
Delivery of Meals
Can I get my meals delivered to my address?
Our home delivery option is available for certain metro Atlanta zip codes and costs $28.00 per week. Additional plans delivered to the same address will not incur any additional delivery charge. Our residential deliveries are made on Mondays and Thursdays between 10am and 8pm. If you require that your meals be delivered during a certain timeframe, please call our customer service team at 404-815-7695. While we cannot guarantee delivery times, we will do our best to accommodate a morning, afternoon, or evening home delivery time window.
Our business delivery option is available for certain metro Atlanta zip codes and costs $28.00 per week. Additional plans delivered to the same address will not incur any additional delivery charge. Our business deliveries are made on Mondays and Thursdays between 10am and 4pm. (Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a delivery time as our routes change from week-to-week.)
What if I am not home when my meals are delivered?
If you are not available during delivery hours, simply place a cooler outside of your door and our driver will place your meals inside the cooler with ice packs. For an additional fee, we can provide a reusable insulated bag for this purpose.
What if I don’t qualify for residential or business delivery?
Not to worry! We partner with more than 90 locations around Metro Atlanta to offer pick-up locations for meal plans. Each partner location has designated pick-up times on Monday and Thursdays.
What if I can’t pick up my meals on Mondays or Thursdays?
In order to ensure that you get the freshest product possible, we require that you pick up your meals during the designated times for your partner pick-up location each Monday and Thursday. Good Measure Meals cannot guarantee that your partner pick-up location will be open or staffed at times other than the stated pick-up times on Mondays and Thursdays. Additionally, to comply with food safety, all meals must be removed from the cooler before the next delivery occurs. Any meals still remaining in the cooler from a previous delivery will be discarded by our driver at the time of the next delivery, and will not be subject to refund.
