RECIPE: Oven-Baked Sweet Potato Fries

If you're like a lot of us here at Good Measure Meals, you've probably set some goals to eat healthier, cook more, move more, or lose a few pesky pounds this year.

And, also if you are like us, as soon as you set those intentions, you immediately can't stop thinking about, say, French fries.

Side note: in case you think we've somehow "enlightened" our way into immunity toward greasy food cravings because we work for a health food organization...yeah, that's not a thing.

Greasy food cravings happen (because greasy food tastes good!). One thing we do have going for us is that words from our brilliant co-workers and friends in the nutrition field play in the back of our heads when those situations arise. (It takes a village and lots of repetition, y'all.)

So instead of bee-lining to the closest drive-thru and supersizing an order of fries, do what we do and take advantage of some tips from our awesome dietitian nutrition coach, Alissa Palladino.

Look that craving straight in the eye and say, "I can do this better. I'll beat you at your own game."

Case in point: these delicious Oven-Baked Sweet Potato Fries(Recipe below.)

Not only do these satisfy your craving for fried food without the unnecessarily high quantities of grease and salt, sweet potatoes also contain higher levels of vitamins A and C than regular white potatoes, as well as fiber and potassium.

Plus, cooking your own treats gives you the added benefit of mindfulness instead of mindlessness, taking the edge off of the craving beast as you go through the motions of preparing and cooking the food. Cooking (instead of just grabbing and eating) also gives you the ability to control the amounts of salt, sugar, and fats you add to your treat as well as intentional portion sizing.

Ultimately, food cravings happen -- but sometimes, so do great solutions.
